Dr. Potter is a professor and urban entomologist at the University of Kentucky. His extension and practical research program provides cutting-edge information and advice about pests to companies and their clients worldwide. Prior to joining the University in 1991, Mike was the National Technical Director for the world’s largest pest control company. Before that, he worked in the agrichemical industry as a research entomologist and manager of insecticides. He received his bachelor’s degree in entomology from Cornell, and master’s and Ph.D. with a specialization in integrated pest management from the University of Arizona.

Mike is a frequent speaker, writer, and industry educator. He’s been an invited lecturer in more than 30 states, and Keynote Speaker at pest conferences throughout the world. Recognized as one of the 25 Most Influential People in the Pest Control Industry by Pest Control Technology magazine, Mike also was a recipient of the Industry Leadership Award. In recent years, Dr. Potter has spent much of his time studying bed bugs, enlightening the public and battling infestations wherever they are found.

During the past several years Richard has become recognized as one of the countries leading experts on the subject of bed bugs and bed bug management. Richard has taken the lead in dealing with this very serious re-emerging pest. In 2004, Richard edited the Bed Bug Chapter in the pest management industry's most well respected textbook reference, The Mallis Handbook of Pest Control 9th Edition and is the co-author the Bed Bug Handbook. Richard was also featured as an expert on bed bugs on the Discovery Channel in Canada and was a guest of the Leonard Lopate show on National Public Radio (NPR), along with Dr. Richard Pollack, Harvard School of Public Health. In 2004, Richard was an invited speaker at the National Urban Entomology Meeting and in 2005, was invited to participate in the first bed bug symposium at the Entomological Society of America's annual meeting. Richard has been consulted as an expert for court cases dealing with bed bug litigation and has been frequently cited as an expert in numerous newspaper articles to include the NY Times, USA Today. Richard speaks to audiences throughout the United States educating the pest control industry as well as a number of other industries and government agencies on the subject of bed bugs.

Christian Hardigree

Christian E. Hardigree is an associate professor and the Department Chair for the Hotel Management Department (HMD) in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate classes, including Hospitality Law, Laws of Innkeeping and Food Service, Hospitality Employment Law, and Laws in Sports and Leisure Studies. Currently, she serves as the department chair for 21 faculty members within the Hotel Management Department. Christian has been teaching courses at UNLV since 1997.

In addition to her educational obligations, Christian has an extensive background as a trial attorney practicing primarily in the areas of premises liability, security/safety, products liability, and employment law. She maintains an active caseload at the firm Parnell & Associates, including private consulting and mediation/arbitration services. She is also a state appointed arbitrator for Nevada’s mandatory arbitration program. She is licensed to practice law in Nevada and Georgia. Christian also serves as a consultant for numerous Strip properties in Las Vegas on a variety of litigation issues.

Christian conducts research and presents papers at industry conferences nationally as related to her areas of expertise. In recent years, Christian has spoken to numerous groups on bed bug litigation, enlightening the hospitality industry on the legal pitfalls inherent in today’s litigious society. The proliferation of bed bugs has created an obstacle course for virtually every business owner which necessitates a “working-man’s” understanding of the technicalities of the American legal system.
